“Not a day goes by that I don’t think about that day, about my fellow brothers-in-arms that laid down their lives.” —Jason Arellano
Today Baldwin recognizes one of our own for his service as a United States Marine. We thank you for your contributions to our country and family, alongside all respected veterans.
On December 12th, 2004, Jason Arellano was hit with a grenade and shot, simultaneously, while clearing houses in Fallujah, Iraq. “Not a day goes by that I don’t think about that day, about my fellow brothers-in-arms that laid down their lives. They paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms. It is my duty to live each day to the fullest, to live in their memory, honoring them and their sacrifices. I don’t want to waste a single moment of this life.”
Jason knew at a young age that he wanted to join the United States Marine Corps. “I looked up to older family members that served and knew I wanted to follow in their footsteps.” Raised to value respect, honor, courage, and commitment, he applies the same principles in his life today.
Never one to look for accolades, Jason exudes humility and a heart of servitude. Whether at work, or at home with his wife and four children, he is often the first to jump in and tackle whatever needs to be done with a contagious smile and laughter.
“They paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms. It is my duty to live each day to the fullest, to live in their memory, honoring them and their sacrifices.”
“Where my life has taken me is incredible. I’m so blessed to be here today with an amazing wife, four beautiful children, and a job where I get to serve people through clothing. People ask me all the time, how do you do it. How do you continue on? I do it with a happy heart. My friends laid down their lives so I could live. I choose hope. I choose joy. I choose to make the most of every day in their honor and leave a legacy for future generations.”
Jason lives a lifestyle of service and gratitude, one that is a choice, one that defines him and changes the atmosphere around, impacting this world with light.
He has been able to visit combat wounded, encourage Gold Star Families who have lost a loved one, and continues to share his story and message of hope through speaking opportunities. Accounts of his service while in combat have been featured in the book New Dawn: The Battles for Fallujah by Richard S. Lowry, ABC’s Nightline, The Military Channel, and the documentary film Perfect Valor.
“I choose hope. I choose joy. I choose to make the most of every day in their honor and leave a legacy for future generations.”
