Occupation: Collector, Owner, Raggedy Threads

Jamie Wong is not old. But she is definitely vintage. She is the collector and owner behind Raggedy Threads, a vintage store with locations in New York and Los Angeles. Buying and selling vintage garments has been her life for about 17 years, but she does it with the same passion today that she did when she started out with a small set up at the Rose Bowl Flea Market. She does it like an artist. “It’s all passion at the end of the day. I do what I do out of love as well,” she said. “Photographers capture stories. I capture stories from 100 years ago in the form of the garments that I find and sell.”

While most operations like hers do the majority of their business online, Wong thrives on the throwback experience of brick and mortar retail. “I’m old school like that,” she said. “I like the interaction of buying and selling, seeing people’s faces light up when they find something they love. That’s rewarding to me.”

That’s not the only thing that inspires her. It’s the garments themselves. “I get inspired by the original colors  of each garment, the textures, the washes, the wear and the people that continue the stories by making it their own.”
