"Everything I do is intertwined with this lifestyle of music." — Hermon Mehari
The story of musician and jazz trumpeter, Hermon Mehari, begins in Kansas City where he “fell in love with the idea of making music in the moment” during an improvisational jazz class. Today, Mehari makes music in cities all around the world. He’ll tell you he’s known since school that music would be his life. But it took more than fate to get him where he is today. “I’m pushing myself all the time,” Mehari said. “Like an athlete would, I still work on my craft every day.”
As a student, Mehari was inspired by the likes of Miles Davis and Charlie Parker. Now he finds inspiration on the streets of Tokyo and in the nightclubs of Paris. “I’m always inspired when I’m on the road,” he said. “You see different things, different people’s lives and their viewpoints.”
Though he’s out on the road more and more every year, Kansas City still keeps him growing as a musician. “There’s such a strong community of artists here,” he said. “I see these people every day, we push each other here and I can play here every day.” And so the story of Hermon Mehari continues in Kansas City and all around the world.
