BALDWIN was created in 2009 by designer Matt Baldwin. While Matt and his wife Emily ran their successful Kansas City boutique, Standard Style, customers asked for the perfect, American-made premium denim. At the time, the denim market had reached peak exposure with fast cycling trends; all the American-born heritage of the legendary workwear was lost. People longed for a denim line that was sophisticated with modern fits, but embodied all the authenticity and honesty of classic American style. Drawing upon the culture and roots of his hometown, Kansas City, Matt Baldwin set out to create inspired denim and apparel that maintains its history and casual American foundation using impeccable craftsmanship and design.
In their Kansas City design studio, BALDWIN creates classic designs that never feel overworked. Instead, each detail is carefully considered and crafted in deference to the legacy of uniquely American casual and work wear. Using the best fabric mills, wash houses, and craftsmanship in the world, BALDWIN elevates classic American style in a way that is both earnest and easy to wear. After a 2015 CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund nomination, BALDWIN looks forward to bringing their unique take on classic American style to an even wider market.

In 2015 Vogue Magazine, along with the CFDA, named BALDWIN as one of the top 10 finalists in the Fashion Fund, that partnered with Amazon to showcase an exclusive BALDWIN collection on Amazon in conjunction with the fashion documentary The Fashion Fund.
Some of the industry’s leading designers have been through this same program like Alexander Wang, Altuzarra, Rodarte and 3.1 Phillip Lim to name a few. Through this program gave Matt Baldwin a new mentor, Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue, as well as other industry pioneers to have helped shape and grow brands.

GQ Magazine named Baldwin one of the four best new menswear designers in the country in 2013. BALDWIN designed an exclusive 12-piece collection that was sold in Gap stores around the globe.
What persuaded GQ to choose Baldwin?
“I’d like to say it was a painstaking process and lots of sleepless nights, but when it came to Matt it was a pretty easy decision,” said GQ’s creative director, Jim Moore.
The GAP X BALDWIN collection was met with lines waiting for the stores to open and sold out shortly after the collection launched.
